Students at Fair Oaks Academy take regular field trips. We think it is important to get children out into the world. Our students have been to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the opera, and numerous art, science and natural history museums.

Camping

In the winter we may head to the mountains to play in the snow.  Our summer program allows us to take longer trips; destinations have included Two Harbors on Catalina Island, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, Morro Bay and Pismo Beach, or more local trips to our cabins or to Malibu Creek State Park.

Field Trips

Most field trips are educational, but sometimes we like to just go out and have fun.

Adventure

Over the years our 15-passenger vans and an occasional U-Haul trailer have taken us all over California, from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks to Hearst Castle in San Simeon to our own mountain retreat in the San Bernardino Mountains, The Oaks.  Leaving wonderful places is never easy … and the time we got snowed in it was delightfully challenging!

Museums

School groups travel frequently to local museums, including the Pacific Asia Museum, the Norton Simon Museum, La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Natural History Museum, Nethercutt collection, or the J. Paul Getty Museum.  Students write reports on their experiences after each field trip.

Science

Local destinations have included Leo Carillo Beach at low tide, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and the Mission Control Room of nearby Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, where scientists build and monitor robotic spacecraft, including Voyager 1. [Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 is the man-made object furthest from Earth, and the only one in interstellar space. It communicates to us across 20 billion miles using a 20 watt radio transmitter.]
