Before our son came to Fair Oaks Academy he frequently got sick. He would mostly get coughs. This is something he had been going through since about the time he started going to daycare and Kindergarten. Since he started in Altadena, the only time he got slightly sick was around Christmas and that was during a school break. This is an extremely large improvement.

What you do with all of the kids at your school is amazing. When my daughter comes home she is happy and speaks very highly of the staff, the other children and the activities there. Thank you so much for everything.

My daughter is 7 years old and an avid reader thanks to the early literacy program at Fair Oaks Academy. One example. This summer the Pasadena Public Library is having "Amazing Library Kids", a program to encourage kids to read. Ashley filled in one sheet of book titles (40 titles per sheet) and is on her second sheet, and this is after only three weeks. The last trip to the library had to be repeated the next day - Ashley had read all 15 books she had checked out. We know that she is comprehending the books because she often reads them a second time aloud to her 4-year-old brother.

I like the school. We go on field trips a lot. And it's a nice school.

Annie, age 5

My parents were visiting my sister in Los Angeles. Her son attends Fair Oaks Academy, a private K-8 school in Altadena, and my parents took him to school and picked him up for three weeks. When my parents came back from their trip they could not stop raving about the school. Both agreed that they have never seen a group of children like that who were so friendly and willing to just walk up to them and start a conversation - each and every one of them. At one point, one little girl was having trouble with a swing and my nephew said, "Granddaddy, would you go help her?" My father was so pleased to see my nephew thinking of another child and not just himself, as he usually expects 4-year-olds to do.

I just wanted to let you know that through my elementary school search in the Altadena-Pasadena area not one compared to yours. My daughter has completely blossomed since starting there. Leigh’s interest in academics, art and music is utterly inspiring. The group of kids is an incredible sight too, compared with others. What a joy your school is! Thanks for everything.

My daughter attended Fair Oaks Academy in Altadena for 8 years and graduated from their middle school to 9th grade in a local high school. She was able to make the transition maintaining straight A's both semesters, demonstrating outstanding citizenship and positive attitude as well. She is in the Marching Band and was selected for next year's J.V. cheerleading team. She attained the highest grade in her English class.

I love your school because writing is fun and because you learn how to write better.

Ollie, age 6

My children attended Fair Oaks Academy for just over one year. When they arrived they were both approximately 2 years behind academically compared to most primary school students.  In that one year period my son, aged 9 at the start, ended up one year ahead of his grade level. My daughter is doing similarly in math in her grade. Due to moving from Altadena, both are now attending a public school. In my son's first math test, much to the amazement of his teacher and fellow students, he finished 45 minutes before his classmates. He regularly finishes well ahead of the rest of the class and his test results are generally 99-100%. He also is going well in his reading, and chooses to read a lot at home.

My son brings his workbooks home at night and gets just as much done on them as he can in one night. This morning when I got up (about 7 a.m.) he was fully dressed and sitting at the table writing a story. He was very excited about his story as he had written 309 words.

My daughter and I both want to thank you for creating a private fundamental school that is safe and sane, where a kid can be a kid without the dramatizations of society being forced on them. When we left Altadena and arrived in Florida my daughter commented that the elementary schools she checked out were not like yours. She was actually begging to go back. Again, thank you for giving my child a great education and for setting an amazing example of how a group should be.

I'm a trumpet player and I auditioned to attend the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts which only takes 30% of those who apply. I just found out I was accepted!

When my son started at Fair Oaks Academy about 7 months ago he had received no education in reading. He could read a few words. The other day, while driving him to school, he picked up a book I had in the car, which I believe is for 8-year-olds and proceeded to read almost the entire book aloud to me, with the exception of a few words which he spelled out to me. The reading was fluid and seemed effortless.

I have been going to Fair Oaks Academy for about five years. I just love going to this school! It's fun, interesting and educative. I haven't had one regret about deciding to go to this school. I learned that I could have the very best handwriting in my class and I'm very proud of that.

Teddy, age 10

I have wanted to deliver this communication for quite some time. My daughter was a student at Fair Oaks Academy from the time she was 2 until the time she was 8. She is now 12. One of the things I noticed after she left the school was that she had been instilled with a level of ethics superior to other children she was encountering. She was also very much herself.

I love this school! I like almost all the subjects and all the arts and craft projects and Big Bear trips.

Molly, age 10

A few weeks ago my dad and step-mother came in from out of town for a visit. Victor, who just turned 6, had brought home a pack of reports from his lessons on ocean life and, being very proud of it, he promptly retrieved the pack from his room and proceeded to read all of his reports to the family. My parents were very impressed with Victor's reading ability and couldn't get over how neatly his reports were printed!

I brought my children to Fair Oaks Academy less than a month ago. In particular my older son, after 2 years elsewhere was a dull, uninterested student lacking confidence in his abilities in reading and math. In less than one week he was flying. He is confident in his schoolwork and overall is winning.
